After having worked for a few other companies in the optical wholesale trade, I started a business in 1982 where I imported my own private label line of optical frames and set up a wholesale distribution operation where I sold the frames to the trade – opticians, optometrists and ophthalmologists – around the country. I ran the business for 25 years, and sold it in 2007 when I retired.
Starting and building a new business involves stress, loss of sleep, hopefully support from family and friends as well as wearing many different hats. It can be an exciting and nerve-racking process, but for the motivated and energetic and properly financed entrepreneur who has a business plan that makes sense, this is as good as it gets.
